structure.
Each class begins with a warm up, which consists of cardio, strengthening and stretching exercises to prepare the students for the class. Students then partake in a range of technique exercises and learn some choreography, to practice different styles and ultimately work towards our end of year performance. Class concludes with a cool down, to help students effectively recover after working their bodies.
purpose.
Classes are intended for recreational purposes, without the pressure of competitiveness. This allows students to grow in a supportive environment and improve their mental and physical well being while learning to dance.
Students are continuously improving their skills and their fitness levels, while simultaneously creating integral social connections with other people in the community.
Growth.
In our classes, students learn a range of skills that translate into different parts of their life. Students achieve high levels of confidence, focus, discipline and respect for each other, while freely expressing themselves and their creativity and developing their dance ability. We understand the value of being there for each other as a dance family as we all support each other to reach both personal and common goals.
Techniques and styles.
Throughout the course of the year, students have the opportunity to learn a range of different dance styles. This includes, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop. All genres are supported with a range of technique exercises to help students continuously improve across all styles. We also encourage expression of movement through improvisation, to help students find their own unique style of movement, and support them in conveying emotion through action. We believe that intention of movement is just as important as technique and we love seeing students grow in both a personal and dance capacity.
